Over 500 international students from dozens of countries make the University of Wyoming their home while earning their undergraduate degrees. Traveling across the world to a new place can be a major life change, and that’s why our admission team works closely with the International Students & Scholars office to help guide our incoming international students in their admission process.

English Language Center

The University of Wyoming English Language Center works locally and globally with non-native speakers of English through a variety of programs. The ELC focuses on English for academic preparation and professional participation in higher education.

Please Note: The on-campus Intensive English Program requires an application to UW as a full-time, non-degree seeking student. Our application requirements (non-official transcripts) tuition and Confidential Financial Statement are also separate from the regular UW admissions process.

The International Student Experience

From around the world, students come to the University of Wyoming to experience the Western culture of the United States. Our international students represent an important part of our campus community and we strive to make their experience as enriching as possible. They also house the English Language Center, which helps incoming international students with assistance in communication and language.



Getting Ready to Apply to UW

We highly encourage our international undergraduate students seeking an undergraduate or graduate degree to follow these steps for a successful application experience. This timeline will help you to start thinking about everything you need to prepare as you get ready to apply. And as always, we’re here to help if you have any questions!

Step 1


There is a low $40 USD non-refundable application fee to apply. If this fee is submitted in the form of an international money order or a check, it must be drawn from a U.S. bank, made payable to the UW Admissions Office. Please print your full legal name on your check or money order.




Step 2


The University of Wyoming offers the International Brown & Gold Commitment for eligible international freshman students. This financial support is based on your international GPA, though students will still have to provide proof of financial support.







Important Application Deadlines

Fall semester (mid-August) - All application materials must be received by June 1.

Spring semester (early January) - All application materials must be received by November 1.

Summer semester (early May) - All application materials must be received by April 1.


Admission Requirements

Provide Certified and Attested Copy of Transcripts

UW must receive official transcripts (mark sheets, transcripts, exam results, diploma, etc.) for admission. These documents must be original or certified true copies that are either sent directly from the school(s) in a sealed envelope or from a transcript evaluation agency such as World Education Services (WES) or any other evaluation agency listed as a member on the NACES website. All records should be submitted in the native language and accompanied with an official English translation.



Provide Official Proof of English Proficiency

Minimum score 71 for iBT/ 6.0 IELTS / 169 Cambridge English B2 First, C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency / 100 Duolingo are the most popular exam options and results required. Here are the other options for satisfying our English Proficiency Requirement All test scores must be official and sent directly from the testing agency. The following programs have specific requirements:



Provide Proof of Financial Support

You will need to provide an official bank statement to show proof of financial support. All financial documents must be originals. You may scan and upload the original documents through your application portal.  If you have any questions please email us at admissions@uwyo.edu.



Copy of Passport

Please scan a copy of your valid passport and email to admissions@uwyo.edu.
