New Librarians Expand College of Law Library Capacity

With the addition of two new law librarians this summer, the George William Hopper Law Library doubles its staff of librarians and expands its services to students, faculty, the legal community and public.

Tracey McCormick started June 1 as Assistant Librarian for Public Services, and Meara Hill joined the library staff July 5 as Assistant Librarian for Student Services. This has enabled Shelby Nivitanont to concentrate on expanding services to UW College of Law faculty and students as Assistant Librarian for Scholarly Communications.

As a further distinction for the library, Nivitanont earned her J.D. degree this summer from the UW College of Law. She and Library Director Tawnya Plumb will teach two sections each of Legal Research fall semester.

McCormick comes to Wyoming from her adopted home of Colorado. She brings teaching and library experience gained in the private sector, K-12 education and higher education. Besides her MLIS, she holds a graduate degree in psychology and has an extensive background in writing and English literature.

Originally from Virginia, Hill has lived throughout the country, including Texas and Oklahoma. Hill has worked in academic, public and law libraries, museums and archives across the southern plains with an emphasis on creating spaces of learning and free access to information. Besides an MLIS degree, Hill has a degree in history and is an experienced bookbinder.

Both Hill and McCormick say they were attracted to Wyoming's outdoor recreation opportunities.

Following the retirements of two long-term library leaders, these new hires ensure the continuation of our tradition of providing excellent service to our communities.”

Besides the direct services of four librarians, the library employs Librarian Specialists Tammy Ackerson and Marguerite Latta, who together have more than 50 years of experience at the law library. IT Specialist Edward Havugimana provides technical support services to students, faculty and staff.
