Two University of Wyoming Cowboys came away with no times in their respective events during Wednesday night’s College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) performance in Casper.

One of the Cowboys, Weston Mills, of Gillette, was still in contention for a Saturday night short-go bid in team roping, while Cam Jensen, of Arthur, Neb., was eliminated earlier in the week but was looking to score round points for the Cowboys.

Both had rough nights to close out their seasons.

Mills and team roping partner Coy Johnson, of Gillette College, were on the fringes of a short-go bid, which goes to the top 12 individual times and marks in each event, after nailing a 6.4 in their opening round. However, the duo had a no time in the second round. With just eight teams registering two successful times, the event was wide open.

Mills did his job, getting his rope around the steer’s horns, but Johnson’s throw missed the heels.

Jensen’s season came to an end with a no time when he couldn’t turn his steer over after taking it down to the ground. The steer shook loose, making it two straight runs that Jensen came up empty in the event. He opened the CNFR earlier in the week with a top five time of 4.5 seconds.

Competing for UW tonight (Thursday) will be David Gallagher, of Brighton, Colo., in steer wrestling; Olivia Lay, of Elbert, Colo., in breakaway roping; Bodie Mattson, of Sturgis, S.D., and team roping partner Roan Weil, of Casper College; and Kenna McNeill, of Hobbs, N.M., in barrel racing. All are still in contention for short-go bids.
