Wyoming SBDC Network Offers Cybersecurity Advising Program

The Wyoming Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network now offers a streamlined, one-hour, one-on-one advising program to help small businesses become more cyberaware and secure.

This no-cost program is funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) with the goal of strengthening the cybersecurity of small businesses in Wyoming.

The Wyoming SBDC Network offers business expertise to help Wyoming residents think about, launch, grow, reinvent or exit their business. The Wyoming SBDC Network is hosted by the University of Wyoming with state funds from the Wyoming Business Council and funded, in part, through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. SBA.

Under the program, participants will meet with a cybersecurity adviser in a personalized, hourlong session designed to enhance their cyber awareness and security. This advising session will focus on basic cyber hygiene behaviors and developing a realistic cyber-readiness plan to protect businesses from online scammers and hackers.

“This program offering is designed for small-business owners who have a lot on their plates and not a lot of time to spend on cybersecurity measures,” says Paul Johnson, manager of the Wyoming SBDC Network’s Cybersecurity Program. “We know that adopting a few simple behaviors can make small businesses safer online, and no technology expertise is required to make those changes.”

The one-on-one advising session is a starting point for small businesses looking to improve their cybersecurity. For those small-business owners who find the initial session beneficial, there is an option to delve deeper into specific cybersecurity issues at no additional cost.
