Construction Report for July 26 - August 1, 2024

 

 

Announcements:

Irrigation Being Turned On: Irrigation is being turned on; if you see something broken, pleases call or send a picture to Jason Moore, (307)399-6289.

Class Change Over:  Reminder to avoid driving in Prexy's Pasture during class changeover.  Pull over vehicle for duration of class changeover.

Annual Steam Shutdown (June 28 - August 6, 2024):

Our annual steam shutdown is scheduled for Friday, June 28th and will end Tuesday, August 6th. 

General notes about the annual steam shutdown:  

  1. Some buildings have a permanent or summer back up domestic water heating system which will supply 110° F hot water during the outage period.  They are:  Science Initiative, Arts and Sciences, Bureau of Mines, Coe Library Book-N-Bean, Energy Innovation Center, Engineering Education Research Building, Field House, Field House North, Half Acre Gym, High Altitude Performance Center, Hoyt Hall, Ag C, Knight Hall, Old Main, Ross Hall Dining, Service Building, STEM, Student Health/Cheney, High Bay Research Facility, Tobin and the Student Union. 
  2. Backup building heat systems are available at:  Energy Innovation Center – 3rd floor, Engineering Education Research Building, Science Initiative Building, High Bay Research Facility, Engineering Addition, Ag Addition, Anthropology, STEM and Bio Sciences – 5th floor vivarium. 
  3. Backup autoclaves are available at: Ag C Rm 5024, Animal Sciences Molecular Biology autoclave room and Bio Sciences 427. 
  4. A backup cage washer is located on the 5th floor of Bio Sciences.  
  5. The State Vet Chem and BSL-3 Lab buildings are not affected by the shutdown and have autoclave capability. 

The portable boiler for the Washakie Complex will again be in place, so the complex will have domestic hot water for Downey, Orr, McIntyre & Washakie (installed week of June 17th).

Vehicle Access to Core Campus - Vehicular traffic flow onto core campus will be restricted. Every effort must be made to keep vehicles off of the Prexy’s area during peak passing periods. The Berry Gate access, at 9 ½ Lewis street, will be the only access. Incoming vehicles must pass through this controlled entrance utilizing an authorized WyoOne card.

Ongoing & Current Projects:

2024 Campus Irrigation Expansion – New irrigation lines will be installed this summer from the corner of 22nd and Armory Rd to the east along Armory Rd that will service Plant Sciences and the Mountain View Medical Plaza.  3 new road crossings will also be installed to improve campus irrigation.  This work is scheduled to end in August toward the end of the summer.

Ag Building - Exhaust Fan Replacement - On May 28, 2024, we will begin the process of shutting down and demolishing the last existing fume exhaust fan. The parking lot will be closed on the 22nd and the 23rd.The project is expected to take approximately two weeks for completion.

Early Care & Education Center (ECEC): During the week of June 18, 2024, we plan to replace the 25-ton condensing unit for the ECEC building. The estimated duration for this project is four days.

Geology Building – Museum Exhibit Installation (Chase Studio, Inc., December 2024) -  Preparations for the installation of  the new Ancient Seas of Wyoming exhibit on the second floor of the Geology Museum are underway. Completion of the exhibit is scheduled for the end of the calendar year 2024.  Please use caution around construction activities: crews, equipment, and materials.

Ivinson Parking Garage (Sampson Construction) - Sampson Construction is putting together a detailed plan for removal and replacement of unacceptable stones as noted on the exterior punch list. They will also be presenting a plan for the unacceptable patches. This work is set to begin this summer 2024 and complete in the fall 2024. The design team is in the process of designing a snowmelt system for the L-2 to L3 ramp to alleviate the icing issues we had this summer. Once the design is complete we will hire Sampson to complete this work by Fall 2024.

Law Remodel and Addition - The exterior skin is progressing around the north and west sides of the building. Interior finishes are well underway with drywall finishing around 80% complete. Interior paint and ceilings are have started and are 50% complete. The building roof is dried in. MEP work continues on L-1 and L-2 along with the basement mechanical room and is 80% complete. Elevator install is complete. L-2 Library carpet and paint is complete and L-1 has started. Interior storefront and glazing is 60% complete. Tile and carpet on L-2 has started. Intirior rails are 80% installed. Site work is getting ready to start mid June.

Prexy’s Pasture Utility Work – WCEP Phase II (GE Johnson, Inc., Jackson, WY; Spring, 2024) – The final distribution piping is in process at 9th and Lewis and in the alleyway between Knight and Ross halls. Both areas have restricted vehicular traffic and require pedestrian detours. This work will be ongoing for the summer and will have access restored by fall semester. Some landscape and finish activities will take place during the fall semester. Please use caution around all active excavations and observe all signage.

Student Housing and Dining Project (JE Dunn Construction, Inc., Denver, CO; August, 2025) – Please review the map found here for site access and traffic logistics. Foundation activities and vertical structures on the north and south halls are in process. Vertical structures on the north and south halls are in process. Site work is expanding on both halls including storm drainage and finished grade prep for some limited hardscapes.  Please observe all detour signage and use caution around the active construction areas. The 15th St. corridor will close entirely to vehicular and pedestrian traffic from Grand Ave. to Lewis St. on 5/20. Detour access will be provided to Sorority and Fraternity row and the Union loading dock. The road will not reopen until late summer, please observe all detour and closure signs. Starting on 5/16 we are going to modify the construction fencing on the west side of the Student Housing project to allow for some site concrete to be placed this summer. This link shows the new fence line. The biggest effect for McWhinnie Hall occupants will be the closure of the south entrance. The ADA entrance on the west side will have clear access from the north and south

War Memorial Stadium West Stands Renovation (GE Johnson, Inc., Jackson, WY; January, 2026) – The south Fieldhouse (or east Corbett) parking lot and adjacent south and east sidewalks are closed.  The west stands including the area underneath the west stands and east of the Memorial Fieldhouse are also closed for construction activities. Please review the map found HERE for site access and traffic/pedestrian detour routes to campus. Please observe all detour and construction signage including using caution in the area.  Water and sewer services will be shutdown intermittently in the Memorial Fieldhouse over the next couple of weeks (July 17-29), particularly on the east side of the Fieldhouse, affecting the use of restrooms and shower areas.  Areas not available for use will be posted with appropriate signage.
